Getting Started with Communities

Communities is a platform for connecting with people in your local area. Whether you want to organise neighbourhood events, share recommendations, coordinate a hobby group, or simply get to know the people around you, Communities gives you the tools to make it happen.

This guide gives you a quick overview of the first steps. Each section links to a more detailed article if you want to dive deeper.

Set Up Your Profile

Before joining or creating a community, take a moment to set up your profile. Add your name, location, bio, and a profile picture so other members know who you are.

For a full walkthrough, see Setting Up Your Profile.

Find Communities Near You

Head to Find a Community to browse nearby communities on an interactive map, filtering by language or shared goals. When you find one that interests you, open it and request to join — some communities accept members automatically, while others require approval.

Want to get a feel for what's happening locally first? The Discover page shows nearby events, places, and more, so you can see how active an area is before you join.

For more, see Find a Community and Discover What's Around.

Create Your First Community

Ready to start your own? Here's the short version:

  1. Click the community switcher (arrows icon) next to the logo and select Start a Community.
  2. Fill in your community's name, description, location, and missions.
  3. After creating, head to Settings to customise your community — upload a community image, configure privacy, write a landing page, and add search tags.

For a detailed step-by-step guide, see Creating Your First Community.

Invite Members and Create Events

Once your community is set up:

  • Invite members — open your community's page and click the Invite Users button to share an invite link.
  • Create events — open the Board from the side menu, click Create, and choose Event to bring your community together.
