DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT

This page explains how to delete your Communities account and what happens to your data. It applies to the Communities app on Google Play (package communities.site) and to communities.site on the web.

Delete your account from inside the app

1. Sign in to Communities.
2. Open Settings, then Privacy & Data.
3. Select Delete account.
4. Choose immediate deletion, or a 30-day grace period during which you can still cancel by signing back in.
5. Confirm. We email you when the deletion completes.

Request deletion by email

If you cannot sign in, write to info@communities.site from the email address on the account, with the subject "Delete my account". We verify the request and respond without undue delay, and within 30 days.

What is deleted

• Your account, sign-in credentials and profile — name, avatar, bio, skills and interests
• Your email address, phone number and any address you saved
• Your saved location and location history
• Your private messages
• Your contact list and contact requests
• Your device identifiers and push notification tokens
• Your analytics profile, which is also deleted from PostHog

What is kept, and for how long

• Content you posted to a community — posts, discussions, comments, recommendations, event and place records — is anonymised rather than removed, so the community's shared history stays intact. It is no longer linked to you or to any personal data.
• Photos, videos, audio and documents you uploaded into a community are anonymised the same way, and stay in that community's library. Your profile photo is deleted with the rest of your profile. If you want an uploaded file gone rather than anonymised, delete it from inside the app before you delete your account.
• Records we must keep to demonstrate GDPR compliance, such as consent and deletion records, are retained for as long as the law requires.
• Data export files you generated are deleted automatically after 7 days or 3 downloads, whichever comes first.
• Residual copies in encrypted backups are overwritten on our normal backup rotation and are not restored into the live service.

Delete some data without deleting your account

You can delete individual posts, comments, photos and messages from inside the app at any time, and you can export a copy of your data from Settings, then Privacy & Data. If you want a specific category of data erased while keeping your account, email info@communities.site.
